Our MissionOur goal is to help inspire people to do Model United Nations (MUN) and help them along that path so that they will become the delegate they want to be. We believe that MUN is a great activity for young people to be inspired to help find solutions to global issues and to examine problems from different perspectives. Through MUN, you can meet friends from different parts of the world, establish connections with schools on the other side of the country, learn more about their world and step in the shoes of diplomats in the United Nations.
Our conference reviews will be based mostly on those in the Bay Area as that is our area of expertise, but our guides are helpful and relevant for everyone, no matter your age or location. If you have any questions, concerns or suggestions, send us an email at [email protected]. |

Our Story
Our Founder: Chris Liao |
Gavel Delegates was created in the summer of 2017 by a incoming Sophomore at Gunn High School named Chris Liao. He was inspired to create the website since during a political summer camp he had attended that summer, he was extremely frustrated about how pro-America every discussion and debate was. All the discussion topics were somehow tied to America, and the instructor refused to accept any views or ideas that were somehow damaging towards America's image.
As someone who had lived in Asia for all of his elementary and middle school years, Chris realizes that the world is more than just America. In middle school, he had participated in Model United Nations, an activity that allowed him to simulate the interests of other nations in United Nations committees. Through Model United Nations, Chris was able to step in the shoes of other as well as debate and understand why other hold certain viewpoints. Chris has a passion for Model United Nations, and in middle school, he participated actively, attending training after school three times a week for a total of 5-6 hours of commitment every week. When he came to the U.S. for Gunn High School, he was surprised to find that the training curriculum was minimal and delegates were left mostly on their own. Although Chris was able to succeed due to his previous experience, many of his friends who also participated in MUN continue to struggle to this day. Because of his desire to share MUN - an activity that helps people understand others - as well as his hope that this website could help improve the MUN skills of other people, Chris created Gavel Delegates. Chris has always been dedicated and motivated towards improving the lives of others and providing them with the opportunities to reach new levels. Through Gavel Delegates, he hopes to make a difference in the lives of all these future MUNers! |
